Grand Classic Offers Opportunity to Play Two Extraordinary Mountain Courses
Posted April 25, 2019

With the Spring weather finally arriving, it’s time to think about golf in the beautiful, Colorado high country. 2019 marks the 20th anniversary for the Annual Grand Classic Golf Tournament. This tournament is a two-day event showcasing two extraordinary Grand County courses: Pole Creek Golf Club and Grand Elk. Ranked in the top 50 Best National Public Golf Courses, Pole Creek was named “Best Mountain Course” in 2013 through 2016, by Colorado Avid Golfer Magazine’s Caggy Awards. Pole Creek has 27 holes of Classic Mountain Golf on three distinct courses: The Ranch, The Meadow and The Ridge. Pole Creek's design incorporates existing lodgepole pine, valley meadows, sagebrush and a variety of water hazards including five lakes to create a diverse course appealing to a wide range of golfers. Pole Creek’s spectacular views of the continental divide and the Fraser Valley are unsurpassed.

Grand Elk Golf Club, a 520-acre community 90 minutes from Denver amid the majestic peaks of the Continental Divide, opened in 2002. In 2013, the Home Owners Association purchased the Grand Elk Golf Club. Under the new ownership, a sweeping overhaul has updated the course and the Clubhouse while revitalizing the Grand Elk community.

In addition to its on-site amenities, Grand Elk is close to the Winter Park resort and ski area, water sports on Lake Granby, the shopping, dining, and culture of historic Grand Lake, the west entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park, and world-class fishing at the headwaters of the Fraser and Colorado rivers.
Its myriad attractions and four-season lifestyle make it a great place to call home.

The course design was inspired by the Scottish “Heathland” courses, featuring the native sagebrush and valley wetlands at the headwaters of the Colorado River, and breathtaking Continental Divide vistas. The front nine plays through rolling terrain and the back nine plays along wetlands and wildlife habitat. At an elevation of 7,925 feet, Grand Elk was named a “Best New Public Golf Course” by GolfWeek Magazine in 2015.

This year’s event will be held Friday and Saturday, June 14th & 15th, 2019. Friday’s events include day one of tournament play with golfers split amongst the two courses, followed by dinner, a silent auction and live music at the Base Lodge at Headwaters Event Center in Winter Park. Saturday’s activities include day two of tournament play (golfers switch courses from the previous day), followed by a putting contest, cocktail party and awards ceremony at Pole Creek Golf Club. Tournament format at both courses will be a two-person best ball of foursome.
